As the Texas heat gives way to crisp fall air, North Houston and the Lake Conroe area come alive with autumn celebrations. Families living in Conroe, Willis, and surrounding communities (including our Alta Homes neighborhoods) are perfectly positioned to enjoy pumpkin patches, fall festivals, and spooky October events. From corn mazes and hayrides to live music and food trucks, there’s seasonal fun for everyone. Best of all, living here means you get that small-town charm with big-city attractions still within easy reach. Let’s explore the best fall events near Alta Homes communities – including a mix of free and ticketed outings the whole family will love.

Pumpkin Patches & Farm Fun in the North Houston Area

One of the quintessential fall adventures is visiting a local pumpkin patch or farm festival. Just a short drive from Conroe and Willis, you’ll find some of the region’s top pumpkin patches and corn mazes: P-6 Farms Fall Festival (Montgomery): A country-fun extravaganza running late September through early November on weekends. P-6 Farms offers a giant you-pick pumpkin patch and an 8-acre corn maze alongside vintage carnival rides, pig races, an animal barn, and endless photo ops. It’s packed with family attractions – from a Ferris wheel and roller coaster to giant slides and a famous cow train ride. Tasty festival food and desserts (think funnel cakes and fried Oreos!) round out the experience. Admission is paid (around $20-$25 per person), but kids under 3 are free and the ticket includes most activities. P-6 Farms has become Houston’s #1 fall festival for good reason – it delivers an unforgettable seasonal adventure with “pumpkins, flowers, rides, animals, and a variety of family-friendly activities” all in one place.

7 Acre Wood Pumpkin Patch & “Thrill at the Mill” (Conroe): This beloved family fun park in Conroe hosts an annual fall festival called Thrill at the Mill. 7 Acre Wood’s grounds transform with a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, mini-golf, pony rides and more. During the festival day, families can “pick from the pumpkin patch and enjoy hayrides, face painting, and pony rides at this family-friendly festival”. Entry to the park is often free on festival day (activities inside may have small fees), making it an accessible outing. Even throughout October, 7 Acre Wood is open daily so you can drop by to visit the pumpkins and snap cute fall photos with the kiddos any time. Don’t miss the half-price admission specials during the Thrill at the Mill event, plus the vendors market where you can shop local crafts and treats.

Local Church & Community Pumpkin Patches: All around the North Houston area, you’ll spot church and community-run pumpkin patches popping up in October. For example, Faith United Methodist Church in Spring holds a Pumpkin Festival with food, games, crafts and an on-site patch open daily in October (free entry; small fee for kids’ activities). Over in Conroe, the First Christian Church and North Shore Church host pumpkin patch fundraisers where you can grab a porch-perfect pumpkin and support the community. These patches often have weekend family activities and make for a relaxed, free outing – you just pay for any pumpkins or snacks you choose. It’s a charming way to celebrate fall close to home.

Montgomery Fall Fest: Just west of Lake Conroe in the historic town of Montgomery, this newer festival has quickly become a fall highlight. The Montgomery Fall Fest (scheduled for early October) is an all-day event featuring live Texas country music on stage, a kids’ zone, great food truck eats, local vendors, and of course a pumpkin patch on-site. In 2024, the lineup included artists like Jeff Canada and Jon Wolfe; in 2025, they upped the game with Nashville recording artists and even a petting zoo for the little ones. There’s a small ticket fee for adults (around $20 in advance) while kids under 4 are free – and proceeds often support local causes. This festival really showcases small-town charm: it’s hosted at a ranch venue outside Montgomery, so you can enjoy country music under the open sky and let the kids play freely. It’s a perfect example of how living in an Alta Homes community near Willis/Conroe keeps you close to these family-friendly community gatherings

City of Conroe Fall Fun Fest: The City of Conroe’s Parks Department also throws a Fall FunFest each October at Carl Barton Jr. Park – and it’s completely free to attend. This daytime festival is all about kid-friendly fun: “Enjoy pony rides, bouncies, face painting, a petting zoo, and so much more” in the park. They literally have something for everyone – last year’s attractions included rock wall climbing, carnival games, and even a costume contest for kids and pets. Concessions are available if you want to buy lunch or snacks, but otherwise you can spend a few hours here without spending a dime. It’s the perfect low-key family outing, and another example of the fantastic community spirit you’ll find living in the Conroe area. You get to celebrate the season with your family and neighbors, making memories (and maybe a scarecrow or two) in the process.

As the festivals roll in and the pumpkins pile high, we’re reminded why we love this community. There’s a genuine small-town charm in seeing your neighbors at the local fall fest or waving to familiar faces on a hayride. Yet, downtown Houston’s museums, zoo, and big events are close enough for a spontaneous day trip whenever you crave a city adventure. For Alta Homes residents, it really is the “best of both worlds” in the fall season.
